Our office now does the addressing for the non-incorporated parts of Cherokee county. We also make maps of all kinds, including but not limited to school districts, property ownership ( by townships, quadrants, or the entire county), aerials etc. We can also usually custom make any map that you want. Look further in the maps on the right for some samples.

Map sizes range from 8x11 up to 42 inches wide. Prices vary according to size and also if aerials are used.

This office is responsible for elections, voter registrations, recording, maintaining agendas and all records of the County Commission. We maintain all county records and account payables.

About the County Clerk’s Office

The County Clerk, an Elected Position, plays a unique role in County Government, in the Kansas Constitution, and the Kansas Statutes place a great amount of legal responsibility in the position.

This is the Office of Record for the Board of County Commissioners and acts as the official secretary to the Board of Commissioners, either in person or by deputy; keeps the seal, records the papers of the board, signs the records of proceedings, and attests the same with the official seal of the county, and is the official repository for all board records and county documents.

County Election Officer – is responsible for all local, state, and federal elections, voter registration, voter history, candidates filing for local offices, campaign expense reports, advance voting applications, mailings, and election results within Cherokee County.

Tax Administration – The County Clerk must finalize the assessed values on all real estate and personal property in the county and maintains tax accounts.  The County Clerk sets the county wide mill levy and after the tax levies are set, special assessments are applied, the County Clerk prepares the tax roll and tax statements for the Treasurer to print.

Financial Administration – The County Clerk, by law shall observe all claims against the county, certify that the budget is available to cover all claims, and then charges the County Treasurer with those claim payments.  The Clerk shall have a good working knowledge of all County Department Budgets and expenditures in order to present the claims to the County Commissioners.  The Clerk, for audit purposes, must keep a clear audit trail for the accounting of all receipts and disbursements.  All account payables are processed twice a month.  The Clerk must Balance, Distribute and Certify the Motor Vehicle Tax.  Currently, the County Clerk assists in budget preparation of 42 various tax entities in Cherokee County, and gathers information for the annual audit by a CPA hired by the Commissioners.

Public Information Officer – The County Clerk is the “Freedom of Information Officer. ”  Provides educational materials and information concerning the “Open Records Act,” assists any public agency and members of the general public to resolve disputes relating to the “Open Records Act,” and responds to inquires relating to the “Open Records Act.”

(The County Clerk Duties are mentioned 993 times in Kansas Statutes and is responsible to the following State Agencies; KDOR (Kansas Department of Revenue), KDOR-ABC Division (Alcohol, Beverage Control), KDWP (Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks), KS SOS ( Kansas Secretary of State), Kansas State Treasurer, and KDOR-PVD (Property Valuation Division, and the Division of Accounts and Reports.)

The Register of Deeds is responsible for recording all transactions relating to real estate in Cherokee County. This includes deeds, mortgages, oil and gas leases and platted additions to all cities in Cherokee County. 

The Register of Deeds also files financing statements and security agreements on personal property under the Uniform Commercial Code, Federal and State tax liens, Corporation documents, Power of Attorney and Military Discharges.

You can apply for a passport in our office.  We also will take pictures for passports or concealed weapon permits.

Deed book: 

All Deeds are available to view by book and Page numbe  

The books that have been indexed with names & land description is the books D182 to Present.

The books that need a D in front of it to pull it up is A to 225 (Da to D225)

 

Miscellanies Books:

All Misc. books before book 103 need the MS in front of book (MS103).

The Misc. books that have been indexed with names & land description is book MS103 back to MS88.

 

Mortgage Books:

Mtg book Images only go back to Book 193.

Mtg books Images that are indexed with names & land description is book 270 to present.

Older books from 279 to 193 will need a D in front of the Book (D279) to pull up image.

Notice

Notice is hereby given pursuant to the Kansas Noxious Weed Law to every person who owns or supervises land in Cherokee County that noxious weeds growing or found on such land shall be controlled and eradicated. Control is defined as preventing the production of viable seed and the vegetative spread of the plant.

Failure to observe this notice may result in Cherokee County:

  • • Serving a legal notice requiring control of the noxious weeds within a minimum of five days. Failure to control the noxious weeds within the time period allowed may result in the county treating the noxious weeds at the landowners expense and placing a lien on the property if the bill is not paid within 30 days or,
  • • filing criminal charges for non-compliance. Conviction for non-compliance may result in a fine of $100 per day of non-compliance with a maximum fine of $1500.


The public is also hereby notified that it is a violation of the Kansas Noxious Weed Law to barter, sell or give away infested nursery stock or livestock feed unless the feed is fed on the farm where grown or sold to a commercial processor that will destroy the viability of the noxious weed seed. Custom harvesting machines must be free of all weed seed and litter when entering the County and when leaving a field infested with noxious weeds. County noxious weed officials shall have at all reasonable times, free access to enter upon premises and to inspect property, both real and personal, regardless of location, in connection with the administration of the Kansas Noxious Weed Law. Policies

The herbicide control products can only be purchased for land in Cherokee County. We are licensed to sell these products for NOXIOUS WEED CONTROL ONLY. 

The Kansas Noxious Weed Law K.S.A. 2-1314 et seq. requires all persons who own or supervise land in Kansas to control and eradicate all weeds declared noxious by legislative action.

 

 

Noxious Weed Descriptions

A Kansas County Treasurer performs both County and State functions. 

The County Treasurer is responsible for tax billing, collection of county property tax on real estate and personal property and distributions to all County entities (city, school districts, townships, etc.) for their use. 

The Treasurer’s Office also works with the Kansas Department of Revenue in the Vehicle department with the registration, tagging, titling, vehicle title changes of motor vehicles, Commercial vehicles and driver’s license renewals. 

The Treasurer is also responsible for all other moneys belonging to the County and/or directed by law to be paid to the Treasurer.
